After a summer of reflection and creativity, I’m back with a brand-new resource that’s perfect for easing into the school year, managing transitions, and encouraging meaningful writing—without the stress.

Introducing the Quick-Write Journal Jar—a low-prep, high-impact tool designed to help you build a consistent writing routine in your classroom.

Why I Created This

As a former classroom teacher, I know how challenging it can be to carve out time for writing. But I also know how powerful just a few minutes of daily writing can be for developing student voice, confidence, and creativity.

The Journal Jar was designed to take the pressure off both teachers and students. No long prompts. No complicated set-up. Just engaging questions and a space for students to explore their thoughts.

What’s Included in the Resource

This resource includes everything you need to start a writing routine right away:

  • PowerPoint Presentation with 90 engaging prompts (great for morning slides or writing warm-ups)
  • PDF version of the slides if you’d prefer to print or create a flipbook
  • Teacher Instructions Guide with ideas, setup tips, and all prompts listed by category
  • Printable prompts you can cut out and place in a jar or basket for students to draw from

Whether you teach upper elementary or middle school, this resource is flexible enough to meet your needs.

Categories of Prompts Included

The prompts are grouped into six thoughtful categories:

  • Back to School / Getting to Know You
  • Creative & Silly Writing
  • Personal Reflections
  • Would You Rather?
  • Opinion & Persuasive Writing
  • Story Starters & Dialogue

Each one is designed to take just 5–10 minutes of class time—perfect for morning work, calm-down corners, early finishers, or writing centers.

How You Can Use It

There’s no one right way to use the Quick-Write Journal Jar. Some ideas:

  • Project a new prompt each day using the PowerPoint
  • Let students pull a prompt from the jar during independent work time
  • Use prompts to open class discussions or spark longer writing assignments
  • Laminate a few sets for your writing station or center
